5119 thumbnail picture
Aerial photograph. Magnificent forest, driftwood, and a gray sand beach with rocky offshore washed by gentle surf.
Alaska, Gulf of Alaska, Ocean Cape area
5120 thumbnail picture
Aerial photograph. Looking across the coastal plain at Dry Bay south of Yakutat towards the coast ranges. Dry Bay is part of the estuary system of the Alsek River.
Alaska, Gulf of Alaska, Dry Bay
5121 thumbnail picture
Aerial photograph. The north side of the entrance to Dry Bay. A gray sand beach extends for miles towards Ocean Cape near Yakutat. The driftwood piled inland serves as a testimonial to the violence of winter storms.
Alaska, Gulf of Alaska, Dry Bay
5122 thumbnail picture
Aerial photograph. A river cuts through the sandy beach on the south end of the Dry Bay area.
Alaska, Gulf of Alaska, Dry Bay
5123 thumbnail picture
Aerial photograph. A series of dunes or glacial moraines north of Cape Fairweather.
Alaska, Gulf of Alaska, Cape Fairweather
5124 thumbnail picture
Aerial photograph. The magnificent scenery of Lituya Bay. An earthquake here in 1958 caused a huge landslide at the head of the bay that generated the largest recorded wave in history. Trees were sheared off up to 1,720 feet above sea level on the north side of the bay.
Alaska, Gulf of Alaska, Lituya Bay
5125 thumbnail picture
Aerial photograph. Boussole Bay showing patterns caused by the surf , channels which are possibly caused by rip tides, and a river and small estuary at the foot of the coastal ranges.
Alaska, Gulf of Alaska, Boussole Bay
5126 thumbnail picture
Aerial photograph. Looking to the north west from Cape Spencer, the northernmost entrance to Alaska's Inland Passage. Jointed igneous or metamorphic rocks show enhanced erosion along the predominant joint pattern. Algae covers the tidal zone of the bared rocks and kelp forests are seen offshore.
