Tree roots exposed because of erosion on the north end of Sapelo's beach. Typical of barrier islands, sand from the north end of Sapelo and Blackbeard is eroded away by ocean currents and deposited at the south end where sand dunes continue to build. The erosion leaves behind trees that were once protected by dunes exposed to the ocean. |
