The broken dead stalk of a sponge is the only apparent vestige of life in this images of botryoidal manganese crust.
Johnston Seamounts, Hutchinson Seamount,Twin Cones 20150919T211323Z
14551 thumbnail picture
A seamount in the Johnston Atoll area. Appears guyot-like in the right-hand area of the image with a very flat surface, but the hummocky area in the left center and the large depression are not typical of "normal" guyots. Perhaps those areas were never exposed to the leveling action of surface waves.
