Cutout view of entrance to Charleston Harbor on "General Map of Charleston Harbor ...." Note that what had been Maffitt's Channel prior to the war was now termed the Beach Channel. It had also been called Sullivan's Channel during the Civil War. John Maffitt had sailed for the Confederate Navy and was a very successful commerce raider and blockade runner.
