Thematic maps showing various aspects of the United States population as of
the census of 1850. Published in "Petermann's Geographische". Of particular
interest is the Plate 11, showing relative density of slaves as of 1850 as this
perhaps served to inspire Edwin Hergesheimer of the Coast Survey to produce the
slavery map of 1861 (based on 1860 Census) which is shown in image cgs05194.
