Fertile areas of the ocean swarm with hundreds and hundreds of millions of
animal plankton. Some are visible as small dustlike particles; others can be
seen only with a microscope. The living zooplankton shown here contain two
kinds of copepods - animals shaped like grains of rice - and one kind of arrow
worm - the long slender animals at upper right and lower left.
