491Estuaries and their marshlands are necessary as nursery grounds for some of
our most valuable fisherey resources. Menhaden spawn in the open ocean , and as
the larvae grow they move into estuarine waters where the juvenile stages feed
and grow. Yet, marshlands are being "reclaimed" at an alarming rate for
industrial and residential development.
