The "Contour Map of the Atlantic" should be known as one of the classical maps
of the Earth Sciences. This version of the map was published by Sir Wyville
Thomson of the CHALLENGER Expedition in 1877 and is the first ever to show the
continuity of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The N-S line in the south Atlantic
followed the ridge and is among the most important survey lines ever run.
