Soundings taken by the first USS ENTERPRISE exploration vessel under the command
of Captain Albert S. Barker. This was the first U.S. ship to specifically
circumnavigate the globe on a sounding and temperature measuring expedition.
Note the shoal area at approximately 29 N 34 W. This was originally called
the Barker Rise but is now called the Rio Grande Rise.
