Captain Tunis A. M. Craven, U.S.N., worked on the Coast Survey for about fifteen
years prior to the Civil War. Was skipper of the TECUMSEH which was sunk by a
mine in Mobile Bay at the beginning of the Battle of Mobile Bay in 1864. He
died in this battle.
