The staging area at Greenwich Bay, RI. Shellfishermen were hired by RI DEM to harvest quahogs from polluted areas to be transferred to clean areas where they could depurate, or cleanse themselves. The shellfish were protected from harvest and were later allowed to be harvested after they had spawned and contributed to wild stocks.
