Figure 41. Richard bottle, helical model invented by Doctor Jules Richard in
1902. The helical system eliminated the need for a messenger system for
inverting the bottle at the desired depth. This type of bottle was used on the
PRINCESSE ALICE II in 1902 at a depth of 1870 meters in the Mediterranean Sea.
