Figure 72. Brouardel surface sampler. This instrument was designed to obtain a
sample of the top layers of sediment with the overlying water. A forerunner of
this instrument was the surface mud sampler built for limnological studies
by Bernard M. Jenkins of the Freshwater Biological Association. This instrument
was built by Jean Comelli and tested in 1954 on the EIDER.
