Figure 50. Belloc sounding machine, invented by Emile Belloc. This machine was
designed for raising water bottles and thermometers for studying the lakes of
Pyrenee Mountains. It was subsequently used in a more robust form by Andre
Delebecque on Lake Leman in 1891 and by Prince Albert I of Monaco
off his ship in 1894.
