Figure 43. Magnaghi helical mounting devised by Giovanni Battista Magnaghi in
1881 near the end of his command of the Italian oceanographic expedition on the
WASHINGTON. This mechanism was certainly inspired by the Sigsbee bottle
mounting as well as the 1874 Negretti and Zambra water bottle mounting. The
helical principle was used profitably by a many inventors and instrument makers.
