NOAA Photo Library Image - spac0593

This image shows the North American snow cover on April 30, 2010. This was the lowest snow cover ever recorded for any April. A rapid melt occurred during March and April quickly erasing the record snowfalls of December through February. Sea ice extent, which was close to average in March, quickly declined in April and May and was trending towards dipping below the 2007 record low.
